Opening Day

Well, what an amazing day! From 1.30 till 5 today, the History Centre was buzzing. On our opening day of the season, with an exhibition on childhood and schooling, six brave ladies sat at Elm Green School desks and were subjected to a nasty teacher and then to an arithmetic lesson, writing their sums on slates lovingly made for us by Men’s Shed in Danbury. There was ploughman’s or a cream tea, while visitors reminisced about childhood and school, or just caught up on village news. People dropped in or stayed all day, and walkers happened by and were pleasantly surprised. The sun shone, the bunting fluttered, and the kitchen so kindly made available by the URC was a hive of activity for our wonderful parish councillors and volunteers. A happy time had by all.
